Dear WCMA Community,
It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Leon Osborne, founder of Osborne Wood Products and a long-time member of the WCMA. We extend our sincere condolences to the Osborne family and all who knew and worked alongside Leon.

Leon’s contributions to WCMA were profound. Over the years, he served as a Director, Vice President, and President of our association, offering steady leadership and unwavering support. His guidance during the challenges of the pandemic and his consistent presence at WCMA events reflected his deep commitment to our community and industry.

Leon will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments, but for his generosity of spirit and willingness to serve. His legacy lives on in the relationships he built and the impact he made on our organization.

Osborne Wood Products, Inc. Remembers Visionary Founder, Leon Osborne

Osborne Wood Products, Inc. is saddened to share the news of founder Leon Osborne passing away on Monday, September 22, 2025.

Leon Albert Osborne, 71, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on July 13, 1954 in Bristol, Connecticut. Leon graduated from North Georgia Technical College with a degree in woodworking and from Oral Roberts University of Oklahoma with a degree in Biblical Literature.

Together with his wife, Janice, he founded Osborne Wood Products, Inc. in 1979 and guided its growth into a nationally recognized supplier of wood components serving the kitchen & bath and furniture industries. He was involved in every aspect of the business from the very beginning. He navigated decades of challenges to form the trusted company that exists today. His involvement was imperative to the company’s continued success. 

Leon was passionate about his family, his business, traveling, and organic gardening. He will be remembered for his generosity, his joy, and his unwavering commitment to his faith. Leon cared deeply about many things, but he always prioritized relationships with those around him. Countless stories exist showcasing Leon’s selflessness towards his family, friends, employees, business partners and community members.

Leon’s legacy of leadership, kindness and faith continues to inspire those who knew him. He made a lasting impact on the woodworking industry and his presence will be deeply missed.

FORESTON, MN – September 4, 2025 - Menzner Hardwoods, Co., a leading American manufacturer of hardwood mouldings, millwork, and lumber, announced today that it has acquired Harris Hardwoods, Inc., a manufacturer of hardwood cabinetry components, panels, and mouldings.

This strategic acquisition further entrenches Menzner Hardwoods as a premier manufacturer in the hardwood industry and, enables expansion into the cabinetry component market, while further extending its leadership in the hardwood moulding and millwork category.

Lewis Lumber to Showcase Wide Selection of Hardwoods and mouldings at WPE Lancaster

Lewis Lumber Products will display samples from its large inventory of hardwood and softwood lumber in rough or machined options at Wood Pro Expo Lancaster, Oct. 23-24, at Spooky Nook Sports.

The company will also showcase FSC-certified products harvested from well-managed Pennsylvania forests by its sister company Dwight Lewis Lumber.

Located in north-central Pennsylvania, Lewis Lumber distributes hardwood and softwood lumber, custom mouldings, components, parts, and ripped blanks to the wood products industry. The company’s truck fleet distributes to a geographic radius within 250 miles of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The company ships beyond the 250-mile radius using common carriers. 

Lewis Lumber offers a wide variety of hardwood and softwood species including aromatic cedar, ash, basswood, beech, birch, black walnut, butternut, cherry, curly cherry, curly maple, elm, Eastern white pine, hard maple, hickory, mahogany, red oak, soft maple, white oak, and yellow poplar.

A variety of lumber species and mouldings are available FSC certified. Mouldings are offered in several species; Lewis Lumber has more than 6,000 moulding profile knives on hand. In addition, the company’s CAD department can create profile knives to duplicate any drawing or sample to produce custom mouldings in a wide variety of species by request. The Wood Component Manufacturers Association (WCMA) is proud to announce the 2025 Autumn Spotlight Plant Tour, taking place September 9–11 in Munising, Michigan. This highly anticipated event will provide WCMA members, technology partners, and industry affiliates with an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at state-of-the-art hardwood manufacturing operations.

Hosted by Timber Products, the tour offers attendees a chance to see their diversified range of wood products manufacturing. Attendees will have a chance to see different processes on one property including a sawmill facility, a veneer processing facility, a lumber finishing line, and their recently announced, new hardwood component facility – Munising Components.

Munising Components is a project that has been five years in the making, and is due to the strong partnership between Timber Products and Eagle Machinery & Supply, Inc.

“This is a great opportunity for our members to witness advanced hardwood processing technology in action, while engaging directly with the minds behind the machinery,” said WCMA Executive Director, Amy Snell. “We’re excited to offer this valuable, in-person learning and networking experience in partnership with two industry leaders.”

The event begins Tuesday, September 9 with a welcome reception, followed by a full-day tour on Wednesday, September 10. The schedule is designed for convenience — giving attendees meaningful insight and connections without major disruption to their workweek.

In Memoriam: Honoring Past President Ed Solberg

Dear WCMA Members, 

​It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of long-time WCMA member and Past President, Ed Solberg.

Ed was co-owner of Coulee Region Enterprises, Inc and a valued leader within the WCMA community. He served on the WCMA Board of Directors from 1998 to 2001, stepped into the Vice President role in 2003, and proudly served as President in 2005-2007. His commitment to the association continued as Past President through 2008.

Ed’s steadfast dedication to WCMA and the broader woodworking industry left a lasting impact. His leadership, vision, and service are fondly remembered and deeply appreciated.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Ed’s family, friends, and colleagues during this time of loss.
