Over the past several years founders and owners increasingly tell me they’re wondering more and more about what to do with their businesses. Now in that age when retirement and doctor’s appointments are becoming routine topics of conversation at the dinner table, many have discovered that it’s easier to get into business than out.
Among my own current active clients, every one of them has discussed their departure from the business with me to differing degrees. All have expressed their thoughts and concerns about what will happen to their company when it’s time for them to step away, but only one has put a plan in place that provides for the ownership and leadership transition to the next generation.
