On Thursday, October 17, the 2024 Designs of Distinction Awards were hosted at Summerour Studio in Atlanta, GA. This annual event is presented by the Georgia Chapter of the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA).

Osborne Wood Products, Inc. was one of the bronze sponsors of the event. Jeremy McClain, CEO, and Jonah Chambers, Visual Marketing Specialist, attended the awards event. They were able to network with others in the industry as well as provide company merchandise for the show’s gift bags.

Attendees at the event were able to celebrate those who excelled in the kitchen and bath design industry over the last year and learn more about up-and-coming design trends. Our team especially enjoyed the student design competition. This included submissions from Gwinnett Technical College design students. All attendees were able to vote on the student design they preferred and the winner was presented with an award.

Overall, the evening brought much inspiration to attendees and Osborne is excited to continue attending similar events in the future.

The WCMA Board of Directors is pleased to welcome Ryan Peterson as the newest Director. Peterson has been with Northern Hardwoods since 2015 serving as the Lumber Sales Manager and Business Development Manager. When asked how he got his start in the wood industry he said “After completing my under-grad in education, my first job was at St. Croix Valley Hardwoods.  I spent 7 years learning about hardwood lumber manufacturing, hardwood component manufacturing, as well as building material distribution.”

Northern Hardwoods has been a WCMA Member for 10 years. Ryan shared his take on membership by stating “Businesses should become actively involved in industry associations to remain up to speed on changes in the industry, trends in markets, upgrades to technology, continuous improvement opportunities, and networking opportunities.  We enjoy using trade association tours and meetings to expose some of our front line supervisors and operation managers to end user operations and opportunities to understand other manufacturing practices.”

In his free time, you’ll find Ryan playing golf or spending time traveling with family. “My wife, I, and our two daughters are huge Wisconsin Badger fans and take in as many football, basketball, and volleyball games as possible.”

Ryan replaces outgoing Director Charles Kratzer and will serve a 3-year term on the WCMA Board. Click HERE for a complete WCMA Board of Directors listing.

Keim Company has been a valued WCMA Member for 24 years. Our congratulations go out to them with best wishes for continued success!
A Keim Company blog post dated Oct 8, 2024

The Keim Company, formerly Keim Lumber, was founded in 1911. Over the years, the company has undergone several name changes including Keim Bros., MJ Keim and Son, and Keim Lumber Company. In 2020, the company introduced a new logo and the wordmark "Keim." The name has officially changed to The Keim Company in 2024.

"Most of the time people will still call us 'Keim,' and we’re okay with that," said Jim Smucker, President of The Keim Company. “The new name allows us to more accurately reflect the broadness of our operation as we expand to offer new product lines and serve new locations,” Smucker added.

As a fourth-generation, family-owned business, The Keim Company is guided by owners Robbie and Karen Keim. The ownership is committed to a long-term view on business. “As owners we see ourselves as stewards of Keim” shared Robbie Keim. "We want the company to be around serving co-workers, customers, and communities for another 100 years," added Karen Keim. Read more

Thos. Moser Honors Local History With New Bates Bedroom Collection

Introducing the NEW Bates Bedroom Collection.

The inspiration for the Bates Bed was found right in our backyard in Lewiston, Maine. Established in 1850 by Benjamin Bates, the Bates Manufacturing company swiftly grew into one of New England’s largest textile manufacturers. It produced millions of yards of cotton goods annually and employed over 5,000 workers, transforming Lewiston from a quiet agricultural town into a bustline multicultural city.

The aptly named Bates Bed is inspired by the spools once used by the weavers who worked in the mill. While visually delicate, the tapered spindles are reinforced at the head and foot rail with wedged tenons that provide stability while offering an alluring demonstration of craftsmanship.
Read "The Threads of Time: The Legacy of Bates Mill in Lewiston, Maine" for all the details.
