2019 Fall Conference and Plant Tours
New Orleans, LA
Over 50 WCMA and MMPA Members, Technology Partners, and Non-Members, participated in the joint Wood Component Manufacturers Association and Moulding Millwork Producers Association’s 2019 Fall Conference and Plant Tours Event in New Orleans, LA, September 22 - 25. This is the first joint meeting with the two associations, and attendees were grateful for the expanded networking opportunities, the ability to meet one-on-one with suppliers, and the tours of manufacturing plants in the area.
Held at the Astor Crowne Plaza in New Orleans, the event brought together members from both associations who were looking to connect and learn how other manufacturers are producing products. The ability to discuss with others in the industry about challenges being faced, is invaluable.
New this year, to WCMA members, was the ability to schedule Productivity Information Exchange (PIE) sessions with suppliers. This opportunity provided attendees a chance to create their own “mini-trade show” and get information tailored to their needs. The sessions focused on solutions that the suppliers could provide to manufacturers and ways to increase their productivity.
At the lunch on Tuesday, panels from each association addressed the audience on a variety of topics pertaining to the state of the industry. This was an excellent opportunity for members from each association to understand the differences and the similarities manufacturers from each association face. Tuesday afternoon, general technology sessions were held. The sessions, developed by the presenters, reflected the current tech environment. These forward-thinking presentations focused on tech advances, trends, and new information on products and services.
Of course, being in New Orleans, several attendees took advantage of the numerous restaurants nearby and scheduled dinner meetings to continue networking into the evening.
Attendees at the event toured the production facilities of four manufacturing operations:
