Manufacturing Data Rise: Wood Products Show Significant Gains
Industrial production rose 0.4 percent in March but declined at an annual rate of 1.8 percent in the first quarter, according to new data from the Federal Reserve. Industry groups within durable manufacturing posted mixed results in March. Significant gains were recorded in motor vehicles and parts (3.1 percent), aerospace and miscellaneous transportation equipment (1.2 percent), and wood products (0.7 percent). Overall, 2023 was a positive year for the FDMC 300, a ranking of the largest wood products manufacturers in North America. Although some companies experienced declines in sales compared to the year prior, a majority saw sales stay steady or increase. As a group, sales for the FDMC 300 — which includes manufacturers of furniture, cabinetry, architectural millwork, flooring, windows/doors, retail fixtures, closets/home organization, and other wood-related products — grew 2% over the previous year, reaching a new high of $75.5 billion.
